This kitchen measures 14′ x 16′ and features a 12′ island. (This family of four frequently entertains, and wanted an island that could seat 10 adults.) The kitchen leads into a large combination living/dining/family room, so it needed to flow naturally into the rest of the home. Its primitive, worn look gives the appearance of a 200-year-old room. The painted cabinetry is of poplar and birch; the hood, hutch, and island top are curly maple. The countertop and sink are fashioned from soapstone.
