Set in the rolling hills of Northeastern Connecticut (known as the “Quiet Corner”), this gorgeous new-but-old home offered many opportunities to highlight the beauty of wood and old world style. In the kitchen/pantry, we custom built cabinets of varied heights, using carved corbels, turned columns, dentil and crown molding, and incorporating both painted poplar and birch, and stained cherry. In the dining room that flows from the kitchen, the dramatic mantle features quarter-sawn white oak. The office cabinetry was built from a rustic grade of black walnut, nicely complementing the reclaimed lumber that was used extensively throughout the house.
